I.C.R.T.
The International Campaign for Responsible Technology
Connecting activists and organizations around the world to hold the electronics industry accountable
ICRT’s Mission Statement
We are an international solidarity network that promotes corporate and government accountability in the global electronics industry. We are united by our concernfor the lifecycle impacts of this industry on health, the environment, and workers' rights. By sharing resources, we seek to build the capacity of grassroots organizations, local communities, workers and consumers, to achieve social, environmental, and economic justice.
Mirroring the Global Expansion of the Electronics Industry
Analogous to the global expansion of the hi-tech industry, ICRT began in the Silicon Valley and then linked with other regions of the world suffering the environmental consequences of hi-tech development. By connecting organizations, workers, academics, and activists who are confronting these impacts globally, we have established an international exchange and support network to hold the industry and governments accountable to its host communities. Together, we use best practices to improve health and safety and reduce environmental impacts.
Twenty Years of Activism has Shifted the Industry
A united and coordinated campaign by environmentalists, communities and workers has begun to shift the hi-tech industry toward clean production and sustainable development. Almost 20 years of activism has expanded the awareness of the hi-tech toxic legacy and has forced industry to abandon the use of some dangerous chemicals.
A Global Industry Requires Global Solutions
The rapid changes and global growth of hi-tech pose new challenges and require international strategic solutions. We have identified the key countries where hi-tech development is booming and have been reaching out to community, environmental, consumer and labor organizations in those countries.
